Motivating Your Business

February 24, 2010 Bloggies by Administrator

Motivation is such a broad topic to cover in a blog. It is mentioned in millions of blogs, through tips to motivate you or examples of motivations. Motivation means different things to different people. It is that extra push you may need to take yourself to the next level, an occurrence that makes you realize what you need to get done, or even someone yelling at you to "hurry up and finish". Motivation is realistically defined as the action you take toward a desired goal; the reason for the action; that which gives you purpose to achieve that goal.

I define motivation as situations in life that get me determined to reach my goal in life, personal or business. Motivation to me....

  • is when someone tells me what I can or cannot do
  • is making sure people know who I am and what I am about
  • is when I see others motivated
  • is when I spend a day on the couch, do absolutely nothing and need a kick in the...

But In this blog, I am going to talk about something different. I do not want to write about what motivates you or give you tips on motivations, but I want to talk about motivating your business. That's right, I said motivating your business. What motivates you to push your business to the next level? Is it that commercial you saw on TV and thought "why can't I put out an ad like that" or is it that you always see your competitors' business flourishing and you think, "I need to do something".

If you think about it, a business is like a person. It needs room for growth. To grow, you need to change and develop. Changing and developing occurs when you set goals and accomplish those goals. There are reasons for setting up your goals and accomplishing them, which is fundamentally the process of motivation. So yes, your business needs motivation to grow.

Setting goals to grow your business is one thing, but the reason, aka the motivation, behind the goal being set, is what will drive you to reach that goal and succeed. So what motivates your business? Is your business motivated to grow? Now, obviously you can't go and ask your business, "hey, what can I do to motivate you to do better?" As the owner, you are the business. As manager, you are the business. Even as just an employee, you are the business. If you have any part of the business, when the business succeeds - you succeed.

Motivation comes within. In order for a business to grow, every part of that business, CEOs, managers, and the rest of the employees need to work together as a team. Set up weekly meetings and set up goals. The constant setting of goals, the more "motivated" you are to hit each targeted goal and move to the next on, and stay on track.

You need to think about what you want your business to be about, where you want your business to go, and the steps to get there. Every business has the right to grow. Every business has the chance to grow. The only way you can take your business there, is with a little motivation.
